Detroit Lions Tickets - Appreciating Ford Field

Even though the Detroit Lions have failed to win a major NFL championship since 1957, they enjoy playing home games in a relatively lavish stadium. Called Ford Field, the venue is indoors and and cost over $430 million to build (it was opened to the public in 2002). Interestingly, despite an NFL rule that forbids it, Ford Field was constructed to support end zones that are located in the east and west of the stadium. Detriot Lions Tickets for home games are often easy to purchase. This is likely due to the Lions' unimpressive performance over the past several years and their waning fan support.

Detroit Lions: Hungry For A Super Bowl Title

When they first began playing in 1929, they were initially known as the Portsmouth Spartans. At the time, the team that would eventually be called the Lions were an independent club. Due to difficulties brought on by the Great Depression, most of the independents that were located in the area deteriorated and folded. So, the team joined the NFL in 1930. 4 years later, they moved to Detroit and adopted the moniker "Lions."

The Lions languished for several years. Despite winning an NFL championship in 1935, there was little about their performance to inspire fans. Finally, in the 1950's, they seemed to gain traction. With the help of Bobby Layne, the Lions' quarterback, they snatched 3 NFL championships during that decade. However, Layne was injured in 1957 and was traded to Pittsburgh. Since that trade, the Detroit Lions have failed to win a championship game, and the demand for Detroit Lions tickets has waned as well, meaning there are often very good discount Lions tickets up for grabs in our listings!

There were brief periods during the next 50 years in which the Lions showed promise. They made the playoffs in 1970 (though they were beaten by the favored Dallas Cowboys). They also posted sufficient numbers to return to the playoffs twice during the early 1980's and actually won a Division title in 1983. In the 1990's, Barry Sanders was highly effective and narrowly missed the NFL record for rushing in during his first year. That was followed by 5 more seasons in which the Lions gained entry into the playoffs. Despite this, the team couldn't seem to earn a spot in the Super Bowl. During the past decade, their fortunes soured even further.
