The Cheeseheads At Lambeau Field
The Green Bay Packers' home games are played in Lambeau Field. The stadium was opened to the public in 1957 and has the honor of being the first NFL venue devoted solely to the franchise. It can seat 72,928 people and is considered by many enthusiasts to offer the best professional football atmosphere during a game. This is partially due to the "cheeseheads," a group of devoted fans who show up to every home game. Their name was given to them because Wisconsin is a major producer of cheese. Their dedication to their team can make buying Green Bay Packers tickets a challenge. In fact, the Packers' games at Lambeau Field have consistently sold out since 1960 and Packers season tickets have a long waiting list, just to get on the waiting list.

Green Bay Packers: From Meager Beginnings
The Green Bay Packers were started with a $500 donation. Back in 1919, 2 former high school football rivals joined forces. One of them, Earl Lambeau, asked his employer for a donation and together with his former adversary, George Calhoun, founded the team. To date, their franchise has won a record 12 NFL championships (including 3 Super Bowl titles), 8 Conference titles and 13 Division titles.
The Guidance Of Lombardi
Much of the Packers' success, especially during the 1960's is credited to the leadership of Vince Lombardi. In fact, during Lombardi's tenure as head coach, the Packers won 6 Conference titles, 3 NFL championships and 2 Super Bowls. To many, the Packers seemed practically unbeatable. In 1968, after having led his team to win the Super Bowl, Lombardi became the General Manager of the team. In what signaled a change in the Packers' fortune, Lombardi left Green Bay to become the head coach of the Washington Redskins. Tickets sales went up, and have never slowed down.
The Decline And Rise
From 1968 through 1991, the Packers rarely showed the fire for which they were known. During that 24-year period, they recorded only 5 winning seasons and saw a rotation of 5 different head coaches. In 1992, Mike Holmgren was hired as head coach. Soon after Holmgren climbed aboard the Packers team, they drafted a number of important players, including notable quarterback Brett Favre and Reggie White. By 1996, the Packers began to dominate the field again. In 1997, the franchise earned their third Super Bowl title.
