San Diego Chargers Tickets - Live At Qualcomm Stadium

The Chargers play their home games at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. The venue opened in 1967 and has hosted 3 Super Bowl games. Due to its age, the stadium is widely-regarded as outdated and plans have been discussed to demolish it in place of a newer venue. To see the Chargers play live at Qualcomm, single game Chargers tickets can be purchased for $50 to $98 and rarely sell out.

San Diego Chargers: The Hunt For A Super Bowl Title

The San Diego Chargers were among the founding franchises of the American Football League (AFL) in 1959. Though their original home was Los Angeles, they relocated to San Diego within a year. During their entire tenure in the AFL, the Chargers had only 1 coach, a man named Sid Gillman (himself, a Hall of Famer). The franchise earned respect within the AFL quickly, winning 5 division titles in 6 years. Eventually, Gillman was forced to step down as a result of health-related issues right before the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.

Chargers Through The NFL Years

After Gillman's retirement, the Chargers started a period of decline. Many of the most effective players that had pushed the team to victory during the AFL years either retired or left for other franchises. From 1970 through 1978, the Chargers failed to post any significant numbers, often laboring merely to hold onto third place in their division.

1979 saw the team burst out of their slump, led by quarterback Dan Fouts' setting club and NFL passing records during the 1979 and 1980 seasons. But, the good times were short-lived and in 1983, the Chargers began another long performance drought that lasted through 1991. Each year, the team failed to earn a spot at the playoffs. A new head coach (Bobby Ross) was brought on board in 1992. Despite a rough start that saw the team place last in their division in 1993, they battled their way into the 1994 Super Bowl.

The next few years dealt a series of blows to the franchise. While they managed to make the 1995 playoffs, they were quickly dispatched by the Indianapolis Colts. Plus, in less than 1 year, 2 of their players were killed. One (Rodney Culver) died in a commercial airline crash and the other (David Griggs) died in an auto accident. Making matters worse, head coach Ross and his staff were fired in 1997. The years following Ross's ousting were marked by uneven performances. The Chargers are still hoping to return to the Super Bowl and Chargers fans are still shelling out their money for San Diego Chargers tickets.
