A Stroll Through Tottenham Football History

The Spurs had modest success in the early days. They won their first FA Cup in 1901 and another in 1921. While a First Division Football League title barely eluded them in 1922, they managed to secure a runner-up position. Besides those accomplishments, the Tottenham football club spent most of their time in the Regional and Second Divisions. It wasn't until 1951 that the Spurs won their first Football League title.

Over the following decade, they proved to be formidable competitors, fighting their way into the First Division Finals in 1952 and 1957. They succeeded in earning their second Football League title in 1961 and nearly did so again in 1963. Meanwhile, the club managed to win back-to-back FA Cups in 1961 and 1962 before returning to win another FA Cup in 1967.

In 1981 and 1982, Tottenham won two more back-to-back FA Cups, reminding the top flight clubs that they were a force to be reckoned with. However, when manager Keith Burkinshaw left at the end of the 1983-84 season, their performance declined. To stop the losses, Terry Venables filled the manager role in 1987 and by 1991, Tottenham football had earned another FA Cup.

By the end of the Premiere League's inaugural season, Tottenham had climbed to the top half of the table. Ossie Ardiles was hired as manager in 1993 when Venables departed due to a legal dispute. Immediately, Ardiles began creating a team around new acquisitions Jürgen Klinsmann, Ilie Dumitrescu, and Teddy Sheringham. Even though a Premiere League title continues to elude the Spurs, fans have high expectations for new manager Harry Redknapp and his players.
